Do you remember how much you used to enjoy the smell of homemade bread in your grandparent’s home when you were a child? There are not many things that smell better than a loaf of homemade bread in the oven – it brings up pleasant thoughts in our minds and the taste of the bread is superior to anything you can buy in the market.
Many people think that the process of making bread is tiresome and difficult, but we’re going to show you a simple recipe that consists of easily available ingredients and won’t take much of your time.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Flour – 3 cups
- yeast – 1 pack
- Warm water – 1 glass
- Baking powder – ½ teaspoon
- Salt – ½ tablespoon
- Vegetable oil – ½ tablespoon
- Olive oil – a bit
- Flour – 2 cups
Mix the yeast, water and flour in a big bowl until you get a homogenous mass, then leave it for 15 minutes until you notice bubbles on the surface. Now, add the oil and salt, then add 2 more cups of flour and knead for about 10 minutes. Leave the mixture to rest for 2 hours afterwards until the dough doubles in size.
Once the dough is done, cut it into 8 pieces and start kneading them into shape. Cover them afterwards with a filter paper and leave them for 30 minutes.
Afterwards, stretch the dough with the help of a rolling pin and shape discs with 12 cm in diameter and 5 mm in width. Warm a bit of olive oil in a pan and fry the discs, one by one, for around 2 minutes each. You can also bake them in the oven. Place the discs on a baking pantry previously greased with oil, and bake them for 10 minutes at 240 degrees Celsius.
Beside tasting delicious, this homemade bread is very nutritious as well. Garnish it with some cheese, olives, lettuce, sardines, tomatoes, eggs or mushrooms and enjoy!
